Blame computer issues on this late post. You see, when you live with a 13-year-old girl your computer gets high-jacked because they like to watch YouTube videos on how to braid hair...and since I am NO help in that department, I can't say a word....Then suddenly, your computer won't turn on....
So here we are. Monday at Retro....starting he LAST two days of July in 2012. Another month has flown by, but at least we get to AUGUST...by FAR my FAVORITE cupcake month!!! August's flavor of the month is Grammy's Grapefruit (grapefruit cake topped with grapefruit buttercream)!!
I created it after my Grammy who absolutely LOVES grapefruit AND whose birthday is August 29th! Since I don't get to see her all that often I just HAD to have her around me...so, the cupcake is the PERFECT way to celebrate her all month. She is truly one of the most inspirational women in my life. She is notoriously beautiful, very thoughtful, and one of THE best hostesses McMinnville, Oregon, has EVER seen. My grandmother KNOWS how to throw a party.
My grandmother and I also share the "EARLY BIRD" gene. We were ALWAYS the first to wake up and start the day when I would vacation with her at the beach. So, really thanks to her, YOU have Retro Bakery because I can EASILY get out of bed at 3:30 a.m. to start my day. THANK YOU, GRAMMY!!!
That's it, Bakery Wannabes...a Baykah's gotta BAKE....it IS Monday, you know...
Check out the CAKES O' the WEEK!
Little Mermaid-inspired cake:
Lady Bugs and Daisies baby shower cake:
Polka dots and daisies 1st birthday cake:
Mommy and Baby Whale baby shower cake:
Four-tier buttercream with real ribbon wedding cake (at BEAUTIFUL Paiute Golf Course):
and the BIG Daddy of the Week (which was a pretty small cake) is the Mormon Mission cake!!
This was the CLEANEST cake EVER. Not a flaw on it...
Living in Vegas, I get a chance to live in a big city with small town qualities, BUT it does limit my ability to SEE my ACTUAL small town where I grew up...where my Grammy lives. I miss her every day...but, I hope she knows that I do think of her every day, and I REALLY try to be a big success to make sure she has some GREAT stories to tell all her friends at Happy Hour.
Laytah.
