Computer is STILL in the shop "waiting for parts to come in..." so THIS post is coming at you from the FREEZING COLD, CAVE office at RETRO BAKERY (the ONE place where the AC works too good)! I hope our home computer will be fixed soon...but since it's "under warranty" it will take as LONG as the store wants it to take...until then...I blog on Monday.
On Sunday, I was watching a Bob Costas interview with Michael Phelps. Something Michael said hit me like a TON of bricks (this is paraphrased): "I got the Olympics I trained for." He had just finished talking about how the first two years after the last Olympics he just trained about 1/4 of what he did for his last Olympics. He ducked in and out of weight training. He barely made it to the pool some days. He had his trainer have to WALK him to the weight room just to make sure he'd make it. He really didn't put in the work for the London games...in the beginning.
Michael then said about six months before the games he really kicked himself into gear and trained hard. Bob asked if it was the competition from the other USA swimmers that helped. He said it was. He said he was tired of losing. He was tired of seeing others do better than him. Michael KNEW he was better than how he was performing, but it was ALL UP TO HIM to start WINNING again. Michael said that no one but HIM could get him BACK to the level that he needed to be at to get the GOLD...HE was the one who had to motivate HIMSELF.
There it is. YOU are the only person who can make YOUR life what it needs to be. Whether you are an Olympian, a teacher, a dog trainer, or a cupcake baker, If YOU are not at the level where you see yourself OR at the level where you WERE at...only YOU can bring yourself there. NO ONE will do it for you. NO ONE will put in the work....BUT YOU.
I needed to hear this. I've been feeling very under the radar lately....going through the motions...weeks bleeding into weeks...not feeling very ANYTHING about ANYTHING lately. That's not anyone else's fault but my OWN. When you lose your motivation it becomes a daily struggle to do anything at a peak level. Yes, it gets done...but not up to YOUR standards. It's just done. After listening to Michael (who honestly, I wasn't much of a fan of before last night), I realized that I have to get BACK to who I was only a couple of months ago....I NEED to be at the top of my game.
So, here I am. Monday is a NEW START to a NEW WEEK...and hopefully a NEWLY-motivated Baykah. I KNOW I'm better than how I've been lately....and this week I hope to become the Baykah I used to be: energetic, positive, and FOCUSED.
Now...on the the Cupcakes and Cakes O' Week!

Every day is another chance to walk a new path...or get BACK on the path that you were on to lead you where you need to BE.
Michael Phelps could have been better this year. He could have one EVERY Gold he could. But he didn't. He didn't train how he COULD have been training the entire time....but, he recognized that, changed HIS thinking, and MOTIVATED HIMSELF to do better NEXT TIME.
I NEED TO REMEMBER THIS...
Laytah.
