We're back from vacation...but I'm hardly relaxed. SHOCKER. Due to poor planning we didn't get a chance to go anywhere, so we decided to have a staycation. And, since we live in a VERY nice vacation destination, I figured we'd have a great time...and we did...for the first two days. BUT, if you trap the four Haskells in a one hotel room for too long...we explode.
Here's the deal: Vegas is GREAT. Vegas with KIDS is just ok. So, once you have DONE all the KID-FRIENDLY things you can do... and then the pool is too full of people for you to get in...and you can't WATCH anymore Disney channel because you may KILL someone, it's time to go home...even if it's a day early.
Yup. We went home early. The kids had ENOUGH. They needed space. We needed space, so off to our house we drove...luckily, we weren't on a road trip. It was just a 15-minute drive back to sanity. Suddenly, the kids relaxed, started playing outside, and we got to have a nice bbq on our patio. Some times you need to realize that you had IT all along. (RIGHT, DOROTHY?)
For the record: before we ran screaming home we DID see Vegas like the tourists and had a great time. I HIGHLY recommend the Mob Museum...even WITH a 6-year-old it was really run, super informative, VERY well put together, and VERY interactive. You clearly see how the mob somewhat responsible for a lot of GROWTH in our country...and how the cops FINALLY caught up with them.
When you FIRST walk in they take your MUG shot!
Looks like Lucy KNEW she had it comin'...
Vacations are meant to be relaxing and rejuvenating, but for people like me (who don't know HOW to relax) they are a little difficult to enjoy. I DID enjoy the not working ALL day part of it. I did enjoy the fresh coffee in the morning and the not rushing to make sure "orders are finished." But, work is ALWAYS in the back of my mind...probably because I DO love working. I DO love being busy. I'm the CRAZY Baykah, remember?
Even though we were on vacation for the entire week, we WERE open on Saturday because we had CAKES to make! Here are the CUPCAKES/CAKES O' the WEEK!
Lavendar Calla Lillies cupcake tower topper cake:
with THESE cupcakes underneath (all hand-made by Brian):
Quilted fondant engagement cake:
Fondant cut-outs firetruck birthday cake:
and the BIG DADDY of the WEEK:
Fondant football jersey and football Groom's cake
As great as it is to have family vacation time, when it's OVER it's OVER. Besides...I missed my Retro family...and the cupcakes.
Laytah.
